Christianity: the bestest and most importantist thing ever (it’s official)

Have a read of this, courtesy of the Friendly Atheist.

Brilliant, isn’t it. Just…..wow. What a load of self-congratulatory, backslapping BS. Especially coming from the self-declared majority – “three-fourths of the American population”.

Hey, I’m no expert on such matters, (I’m not even American), but this strikes me as being contrary to the spirit of the Constitution (as pointed out by one of the commenters).

The numbered list at the end of the resolution particularly irks me.

(1) recognizes the Christian faith as one of the great religions of the world;

(2) expresses continued support for Christians in the United States and worldwide;

(3) acknowledges the international religious and historical importance of Christmas and the Christian faith;

(4) acknowledges and supports the role played by Christians and Christianity in the founding of the United States and in the formation of the western civilization;

(5) rejects bigotry and persecution directed against Christians, both in the United States and worldwide; and

(6) expresses its deepest respect to American Christians and Christians throughout the world.

“expresses continued support for Christians in the United States and worldwide”
Presumably that includes Michael Behe, this delightful character and these demented fuckwits, as well as all the people telling each other that blood transfusions are unclean, promoting nonsense like abstinence-only sex education in AIDS-ravaged Africa, treatment of malaria through prayer rather than medication…..and…oh the list goes on forever.

And point 6 has to rank as one of the most vomit-inducing sentences I have ever read. “deepest respect”? Seriously?

It’s ridiculous that one of the administrative houses of the US government (or any country, for that matter) would waste it’s time with this sort of crap. And possibly worse - it was passed almost unopposed; although I suppose that it would have ended up wasting even more time if people had actually made a fuss. Still – urgh.
